Top Gear: Zipp 30 and 60 Wheelsets

The all alloy 30mm deep ‘hybrid torroidal’ rim on the Zipp 30 is claimed to be an aerodynamic winner that can save you an estimated 42 seconds over 40km at 300 watts and 48kph (compared with a top selling standard box section rim and a control 21mm tyre). Spoke count is 18F/20R using Sapim CX-Ray spokes which are laced into 10/11 speed compatible Zipp designed hubs and attach at the rim with external nipples. These clincher rims have a 16mm internal and 21.5mm external width and are not tubeless compatible. The 30’s weigh in at 1,730g for the pair with skewers.

RRP: $ 1,099

The 60 clinchers feature the familiar wind cheating dimpled carbon surface fused to an alloy brake track and tyre bed for their 58mm depth. The internal rim width of the 60s is 13.6mm, external width is 22.5mm. The 60’s also use an 18F/20R Sapim CX-Ray spoke pattern with Zipp’s 10/11speed hubs fitted with stainless steel bearings. Zipp’s rear axle design removes the skewer force from the bearing loading surfaces and passes the entire load through the axle only and not through the bearings so there’s no preload adjustment required.

A pair of 60’s tip the scales at 1,920g with Zipp skewers.

RRP: $1,999
