Bicycle Retail Network Launched

Bicycle Victoria, recently renamed Bicycle Network Victoria, has launched a new initiative aimed at bicycle retailers across Australia.
Called the Bicycle Retail Network, it aims to support dealers through providing bulk rates for costs of doing business such as credit card merchant fees.

Power Assisted Bicycles to Conform with Europe

On 30th May 2012 The Hon Catherine King MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport, announced an amendment to the definition of a power-assisted pedal cycle.

Power-assisted bicycles with electric motors up to 250watts and a maximum speed of 25km/h that are compliant with European Standard (EN 15194) can now be imported into Australia.

Bicycle Imports Increase Slightly in March Quarter

The total number of bicycles imported into Australia was 171,783 for the first quarter of 2012. This compares to 154,601 for the March quarter last year.

The latest imports were comprised of 112,764 adult bicycles or 65.64% with the balance being children’s bicycles.

Is This Australia’s Biggest Bike Shop?

Ivanhoe Cycles has been a landmark on Heidelberg Road, in the Melbourne suburb of Ivanhoe for many years. The shop has gradually expanded to fill about four small shop fronts in a row, plus an old house at the rear, but it was still relatively small and bursting at the seams with stock, staff and customers.
