As you can see from these images, Pony Bikes is not your typical store. Owner Sasha Strickland, who preferred not to be photographed when Bicycling Trade visited, founded the business in 2008 and has over 15 years’ experience in the bike industry.
Cecil Walker Cycles is of Australia’s oldest continually operating bicycle stores, having opened in 1938. It hasn’t always been in its current building on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne’s CBD, but always in close proximity.
Bicycle Superstore is about to open a large new store in at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Bicycle Superstore currently has eight stores in Victoria and one in NSW, some of which are franchisee owned and some company owned.
Former World Track Cycling Champion Steve McGlede recently moved from his long time home of South Australia to Victoria to work at Kathy Watt Cycling. As well as helping to run the store which sells Colnago, Ridley and Apollo bicycles, Steve will be doing skills coaching for beginners through to elite and masters racing.
Troy Dobinson already owns one of Brisbane’s leading bicycle stores, Yellow Jersey in East Ipswich. Ipswich is an historic regional city, turned outer suburb about 39 km west of the city centre of Brisbane.
Goldcross Cycles, which is part of the Super Retail Group, is continuing to roll out its new ‘Store in Store’ concept. Existing stand-alone Goldcross ‘megastores’ are being closed and replaced with smaller stores within Amart Sports stores, which are also part of the Super Retail Group.
Heath Jackson has taken over ownership of Bike Force Richmond from 1st October 2013. Heath was previously National Marketing Manager for the Bike Force group and said he is one of several former Bike Force employees over the years who have progressed to owning their own store.
