The countdown is on for one of the most anticipated cycling events on the Australian Gran Fondo calendar—the Mudgee Classic. Returning to the NSW Mid-West this weekend (3-4 May) for its fifth year, the 2025 event will host record numbers, with cyclists from across Australia and internationally prepping for a weekend of adventure.
The Mudgee Classic offers cyclists a choice of road courses ranging from 35km to 170km for Sunday’s Gran Fondo, plus an off-road gravel ride with the Dirty Mudgee on Saturday. All courses are set against Mudgee’s rolling countryside, plentiful vineyards and quaint towns.

Beyond the ride, the event boosts local businesses, accommodation providers, and the Mudgee Region tourism economy. Riders and their supporters are encouraged to stay the weekend and explore everything Mudgee offers.
NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said: “The NSW Government is proud to support the Mudgee Classic which is fast becoming a bucket list event for cyclists, drawing riders of all abilities to the picturesque NSW Central West where they tour the hills and vineyards of one of NSW’s most beautiful wine regions, tasting the experiences on offer and giving them plenty of reasons to return.
“The Mudgee Classic makes an important social and economic contribution to the region, attracting thousands of participants, supporters and officials who stay locally and spend locally, supporting businesses and jobs throughout the Central West visitor economy.”

Event organisers encourage locals to line the streets, cheer on the riders, and participate as riders, volunteers, or spectators.
The hub of the weekend will be the Event Village at the Glen Willow Sports Complex, which will be open from 10 am to 4 pm each day. All are welcome to come down and experience the atmosphere of a cycling Gran Fondo. There will be live music, a Three Tails Brewery bar, food trucks, and exhibitor stalls.
Limited road closures will be in place on Sunday, 4 May. Sections of Church St and Mortimer St, Mudgee will be closed from 5:00 am – 9:00 am. Gulgong will also change traffic conditions between 9.30 am – 2.30 pm. Traffic will flow through Mayne St, Gulgong in a one-way direction only travelling in the same direction as riders. Detours will be in place between Nandoura St and Medley St, businesses in Mayne St will be open and accessible as per normal Sunday trade.
