Jai Hindley Moves Closer To Pink After Queen Stage Of Giro

Jai Hindley has moved to second overall of the 2022 Giro d’Italia after a super impressive performance on one of the toughest stages of the race – Stage 16 with 202km and more than 5000m of climbing.

Now just three seconds behind race leader Richard Carapaz, Hindley firmly has his eyes on the Pink Jersey – particularly after coming so close in the 2020 edition of the Italian race.

Telling reporters that he’s focused on all out victory, Hindley put in a superb effort on Stage 16 to take four bonus seconds in his 3rd place finish.

“I felt really good at that point and tried to launch a few attacks, but in the end it wasn’t possible to shake off Carapaz and Landa,” he said after the brutal stage.

“Overall it was a good day, I gained four bonus seconds and now I’m only three seconds behind Carapaz in the GC. So like I said, a really good day.”

Enrico Gasparotto, Bora Hansgrohe Sports Director, said regarding Jai’s performance “we can only be satisfied”.

“He was able to counter all the important attacks from the GC group, even made some moves himself, and also picked up four bonus seconds. So we’re getting closer and closer to the pink jersey.”
