Aussie success series: Allan Peiper

When the pro cycling scene takes a breath at this time of year, it’s nice to reflect on past Aussie success stories.

You may have noticed that we often share cycling photos from Sirotti. The man behind this immense library of images is Stefano Sirotti, who has been capturing amazing images for years and was preceded by his late father, Emanuele Sirotti.

We found these great images of Aussie cycling legend Allan Peiper taken by Emanuele Sirotti. Peiper, credited with masterminding Tadej Pogacar’s first Tour de France victory as Director Sportif of UAE Team Emirates, was also a professional cyclist in the 1980s.

Peiper raced for a decade in the pro peloton, winning a stage of the Giro d’Italia in 1990 and the general classification at the Tour of Sweden and the Tour de Picardie.

But his post-racing career has been most memorable. He worked with Cadel Evans and Robbie McEwen at Lotto, the various incarnations of the Highroad team, Garmin-Slipstream, and BMC Racing before joining UAE Team Emirates.

Peiper stopped working as a DS at the end of 2021 to undergo treatment for prostate cancer. He now works as a consultant to Aussie team Jayco-AlUla. We wish him well with his ongoing treatment and applaud him for his contribution to international road cycling.
