Cycling History: The UCI Versus Graeme Obree, or, Never Give Up

A fascinating documentary created by Ben Collier of Peppercorn Productions, this is the Graeme Obree story.

In 1993, amateur cyclist Graeme Obree’s unusual riding position and homemade bike earned him a maverick status, but little success.

‘Obree’ chronicles his remarkable final attempt at cycling glory that year. But he faced significant obstacles put in place by the UCI, was up against star rider Chris Boardman, and raced as a passionate privateer with the backing of a small local bike shop.

‘Obree’ was made as a student film as part of a dissertation project for an archive documentary degree.

As you’ll see over the next half an hour, it’s an incredibly well made documentary and a truly fascinating cycling story.
