Amanda Spratt has won the 2017 Santos Women’s Tour after four thrilling days of racing in and around Adelaide.
Kirsten Wild won a fast-paced final stage at Victoria Park with riders tackling the 1.2 kilometre criterium circuit as the sun set on a 40+ degree day.
But the day belonged to overall winner Amanda Spratt who was thrilled with the team support from fellow Orica-Scott riders.
“It’s a big sense of relief for me now and I am really, really happy to have won,” said Spratt.
“The team were once again incredible today they had everything covered all race. They all said it was a harder race today than last year but I thought it was a lot easier, so it just shows how much work they did and I could just sit in and let them do everything for me again today,” said the former Australian road champion.
ORICA-SCOTT Win Team Classification
“It was our goal to keep this (leaders) jersey and we have done it, it really was a team effort so I am really happy we have also won the teams classification,” she added. “I get to step up on the podium with the whole team and that is a really special moment for me.”
The final stage was expected to be a battle of the sprinters and that was how it ended with Wild holding off local star Annette Edmondson of Wiggle High5, and Australian Chloe Hosking (Ale Cipollini) sprinting home in third.
