The Tour de France is over for another year, and despite some predictions that the two-horse race would make it a little pedestrian, it was far from that.
With plenty of different stage winners and the jerseys changing hands many times, we were treated to an entertaining and, at times, riveting lap of the great nation. The scenery, as always, was first class, and the racing was its usual high standard.
The final stage was marred in controversy because of the route change to add the Montmartre climbs, making it more of a rouleurs than a sprinters’ course. The fast men were no doubt unhappy, but from a spectator’s perspective, it was more exciting. The popular Belgian rider Wout Van Aert took his 10th Tour de France win.
