Australian World Champs Team Announcement Delayed Due To Appeals

With the Wollongong World Championships now less than a month away the announcement of who will represent Australia has been delayed for several more days.

Late on Tuesday AusCycling released a statement saying two seperate selection appeals have been lodged and arbitration appeals are underway.

The statement in full –

‘Confirmation of Australia’s team for the 2022 UCI Road World Championships in Wollongong will be delayed while two selection appeals are heard.

The appeals – which are a normal part of the selection process – will be considered by an independent arbitrator over the next few days.

Once the result of the appeals is known, Australian selectors will meet to determine the final team for the Championships, which will begin on September 18.

AusCycling Executive General Manager of Performance, Jesse Korf, said it was important to ensure the appeal process was thorough and fair.

“The UCI Road World Championships is a pinnacle event in the racing calendar and competition for places in our team is strong,” Korf said.

“Two athletes have appealed, as is their right, and we will give the process the time it needs.

“We anticipate an announcement on the Australian team for the Championships to be made next week.”
