Bontrager has just launched the Aeolus RSL X, a new carbon road wheelset platform designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency, reduce weight and increase stability through a combination of different rim depths.
The design pairs a deeper front wheel with a shallower rear wheel, balancing aerodynamic performance with overall weight. The wheels feature updated rim profiles optimised for 28mm tyres, lightweight carbon spokes and RSL OCLV Carbon construction, which is designed to provide greater compliance and reduce road vibration.
Two models are available: the Aeolus RSL 43X and Aeolus RSL 65X.
The climbing-focused RSL 43X weighs a claimed 1,220g per pair, saving 105g over the previous RSL 37 while reducing aerodynamic drag by a claimed 0.5 watts.

The RSL 65X, aimed at riders prioritising speed and sprint performance, weighs 1,475g per pair. Compared with the previous RSL 65, it is 45g lighter and saves a claimed 2.1 watts.

The new wheelsets have already seen WorldTour competition, with Lidl-Trek riders using the Aeolus RSL X in racing.
Bontrager has also introduced the Aeolus Pro 43X, which uses OCLV Carbon and shares the RSL X range’s 28mm tyre optimisation and updated rim profile. It forgoes ceramic hub bearings and carbon spokes in favour of a more accessible price point while retaining a similar focus on speed, stability and low weight.
