The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race will not be staged in January 2022.
The news came hours after organisers of Adelaide’s Santos Tour Down Under announced their 2022 event will not go ahead.
Visit Victoria said they have been advised that the WorldTour Teams will not be able to travel to Australia for January’s elite cycling calendar due to national quarantine challenges.
“We know this is disappointing for race organisers, our partners, communities along the Surf Coast and cycling fans from all over who love the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race,” Visit Victoria CEO Brendan McClements said.
Race organisers have been working closely with the Australian and international cycling community to exhaust all possibilities.
“Visit Victoria is currently exploring opportunities to hold an international cycling event later in 2022,” Mr McClements said.
Visit Victoria said they thanked the UCI for ongoing support and look forward to continuing a strong partnership that has been built over many decades.
More to come.
