Overnight German bike manufacturer Canyon Bikes have taken the lid off their brand new road disc equipped endurance bike, the Endurace CF SLX. Thus jumping into one of the fastest growing markets in the cycling world for both sexes.
It’s the first road disc equipped bike for the consumer-direct sales mogul, the Endurace CF SLX shares a similar sporty, aerodynamic frame shape to the Ultimate CF SLX but with increased rider comfort the differentiating factor between the two.
The Endurace CF SLX offers a more relaxed riding position thanks to the geometry. A shorter reach, taller head tube and longer fork allow the rider to maintain a more comfortable position over something like the Ultimate CF SLX that inspires a more aggressive position.
When it comes to comfort, the Endurace CF SLX features Canyon’s very own S15 VCLS 2.0 CF seatpost. With a split at the top of the seatpost that acts like a leaf spring, it’s purpose is to increase vertical compliance at the top of the seat allowing the seatpost to deflect harsh road surfaces. The ‘Flip-Head’ seat clamp acts as a pivot to keep the seat horizontal as well.
Along with an integrated seatpost clamp hidden at the junction of the rear stays that creates a longer pivot, the seat tube has a kink toward the bottom bracket to increase pedal efficiency. Canyon says this is where the Endurace CF SLX will excel.
Canyon have also taken their one-piece stem and bar combo and redesigned it with comfort in mind. The H31 Ergocockpit by Canyon features on the Endurace CF SLX with 6 degrees of backward sweep that claims to take the weight off a riders wrist, it is also a lighter combo than the H11 Aerocockpit and is 10% more compliant than it’s race-bred counterpart.
Coming down to the all-important stopping power, a flat-mount hydraulic Shimano BR-RS785 disc brake with 160mm rotors are mounted to all Endurace CF SLX bikes. With 12mm thru-axles for rigidty, the forks are also a reinforced carbon layup to handle the increased pressures of braking.
The Endurace was designed to be more stable at speed, with a long 415mm chainstay and increased fork rake.
The frame will accept tyres up to 33mm wide with plenty of clearance in the fork and rear stays.
Aerodynamic features include an aero hourglass head tube, aero fork legs, a narrow D-shape down tube, a D-shape seat tube, low bottle cage positions and bridgeless seatstays that have all been tested and designed accordingly from extensive time in the wind-tunnel.
With more models than you can poke a stick at, the Canyon Endurace CF SLX starts at $5,499.00 AUD for the Endurace CF SLX 8.0 from Canyon’s direct sales website, then things move through Shimano Di2 and mechanical incarnations up to the Endurace CF SLX 9.0 SL with Dura-Ace Di2 and Mavic Ksyrium Pro Carbon SL Disc Clinchers for $9,199.00
