Chris Froome Hit By A Car While Training In France

UPDATED: Multiple Tour de France champion Chris Froome has been deliberately “rammed” by a driver while training in France. The driver failed to stop after the incident.

“Just got rammed on purpose by an impatient driver who followed me onto the pavement!” Froome wrote to his 1.2million followers on Twitter. “Thankfully I’m okay. Bike totalled. Driver kept going!” he added.

The shocking incident comes just weeks after Astana rider and Italian cycling legend Michele Scarponi was killed when hit by a van while training near his home in Italy.

Posting an image of his mangled Pinarello Dogma F10, damage to Froome’s bike includes folded front and rear wheels, a bent rear derailleur and what appears to be a break in the toptube. The incident has made headlines around the world.

Incident Reported To Police

Froome later updated his Twitter post to say he had reported the incident to police.

“Pretty scary experience today,” he wrote. “The French police have been brilliant, I have given them all the details. Just grateful I wasn’t hurt.”

He added that a new bike was being flown in, and he’ll resume training as soon as it arrives.
