Welcome to your Bicycling Australia Friday wrap on this, the eve of another three weeks of Grand Tour action with La Vuelta starting tomorrow.
All Eyes On Spain
Aussie cycling fans have been spoilt for choice in this Olympic year and the viewing continues this weekend with the start of the 2016 La Vuelta in Spain. A tough course with 10 mountain stages, it’s definitely one for the climbers. This year’s La Vuelta is sure to be a thriller with the world’s top riders vying for the podium.
Big Names Line Up For La Vuelta
Alberto Contador, Chris Froome and Nairo Quintana are racing – along with ‘adopted Aussie’ Esteban Chaves of Orica-Bike Exchange. A standout rider who placed 2nd overall at this year’s Giro, Chaves is joined by rising star Simon Yates who this week extended his contract with the Aussie team by two years. Best Of Olympic Cycling
The Olympic road and track events wrapped up this week. Aussies are still in the medal hunt in BMX & Mountain Biking events – in that discipline riders are up against none other than Peter Sagan! Here’s a highlights package of the road and track action.

Caleb versus The World’s Best
Young Aussie sprint sensation Caleb Ewan is up against some of the top sprinting talent in the world this Sunday in Germany. Orica-Bike Exchange have assembled a solid team of 8 riders for the Cyclassics Hamburg, a 250km one-day classic. Caleb Ewan will battle with such names as Mark Cavendish, Andre Greipel, Alexander Kristof and John Degenkolb.
