Garmin Varia Rear-View Radar Releases in Australia

At the start of 2015 Garmin acquired a crowd-funded bike-mounted radar company that was making radars that mounted to the seat post of their bikes to give real-time data of approaching cars to the handlebar display.

Since then, Garmin made a 7 month turnaround of their newest product, the Garmin Varia Radar and Light set.

The simple design and use gives riders an extra level of safety when cycling on the roads, and now it is available in Australia.

The principle is that the radar detects approaching cars from behind the rider and transmits information of the distance and speed wirelessly to the rider on their handlebar mounted Garmin Edge device or associated display.

It has the ability to detect multiple cars and has a range of 140 meters behind the rider.

Also included is the function for the radar to act as a rear tail light that brightens and flashes to notify approaching traffic of a cyclist ahead.
