Diego Ulissi of Lampre-Merida took his fifth stage win in the Giro d’Italia last night after a tactical assault before the last climb some 10km from the finish.
Ulissi’s team mates put him in a late breakaway at the foot of the last climb before he launched his attack over the top. The Italian stayed clear of the chasing peloton who finished only five seconds behind him on the line in Praia a Mare.
Tom Dumoulin, the ITT Stage 1 winner came in hot behind Ulissi to reclaimed the Maglia Rosa leaders jersey leaving Marcel Kittel with lighter shoulders for tonight’s stage.

Praia a Mare hosts a stage start as well as the previous day’s finish. The route heads north again, but leaves the coastline, cutting inland across a course that’s hilly, but with no major climbs.
