Mark Cavendish takes his final bow

We salute Mark Cavendish who has finally put the rumours to bed by retiring from professional cycling after his final win at the Singapore Criterium last week.

Cavendish has entertained us since 2009 when he joined the WorldTour with his 35 Tour de France stage wins, two Tour de France green jerseys, 17 Giro d’Italia stages, a UCI Road World Championship Gold, a win at the Milan-San Remo, and many, many more. A very impressive 165 career wins.

Affectionately known as the Manx Missile, the Isle of Man local was knighted for his contribution to the sport of cycling and charitable endeavours earlier this year.

In looking back at our photo library (thanks to our friend Stefano Sirotti), we couldn’t help but notice his discomfort on the podium when he was kissed on the cheek by the podium ‘girls’. He was, however, very happy to be on the podium so many times but preferred to share it with his beloved children.
