Primoz Roglic Wins Olympic TT As Rohan Dennis Makes Podium

Primoz Roglic has blitzed the Individual Time Trial at the Tokyo Olympics, the Slovenian adding a gold medal to his impressive list of palmares. Roglic won by a staggering 1 minute and 39 seconds, a huge margin over the 44km course.

Tom Dumoulin, who is back with vengeance after close to 6-months away from the sport, showed his fine form by posting a strong and resounding time to finish second.

Rohan Dennis, the World TT Champion in 2019 and 2020, finished an impressive 3rd to medal at the games. Dennis, who was 4th fastest after the first of two laps, made up time in the second lap to secure the bronze medal.

Race favourite Fillipo Ganna of Italy finished 4th.

Porte Unhappy With His Performance

Richie Porte, who finished outside the Top 10, said the Tokyo Olympics had been a wonderful experience but he wasn’t at all happy with his time trial performance.

“It’s probably the worst ride I’ve had for a long time,” he told Channel 7 after the event. “It was a hard course.”

Asked more about his performance, Richie said “This one’s on me, I wasn’t up to it. It hasn’t been a great games but it’s still a lot better than being in hospital like I was in Rio,” he said, referring to his horror crash during the Olympic road race five years ago.

“Next year is it for me,” Porte concluded. “I’m in my twilight.”

More to come.
