Rider safety is arguably the most important issue in our sport and cameras can make the difference. Here we test the latest offering from Tooocycling.
We’ve recently been road testing the DVR80, a new all-in-one rear-facing camera and light made by Singaporean brand Tooocycling.
Cycling cameras, front and rear, are quickly becoming a ‘must have’ accessory. As the roads get busier and drivers seem to be more and more impatient, recording a ride is not just a luxury but becoming a necessity these days.
The unique, compact design of the DVR80 stands out and it’s a robust and well made unit. It’s also surprisingly slimline and tucks in nicely behind the seat post.
The device comes with a charger, two seatpost mounts, an aero seatpost adapter, some rubber ties, a charger, and a protective silicone case for the camera.
The footage comes out really well, with a wide angle and stable images. Capturing sound quite clearly as well, the unit is impressive. It also features an 80 lumen light, angled so that it does not interfere with the camera.
A notable safety feature of the DVR80 is upon impact the camera automatically continues recording for one hour. This could prove very important if an accident with a motor vehicle occurs. Hopefully this will never happen, but it’s reassuring to know the tech is aboard and gives wonderful peace of mind.
Priced at a very reasonable $279.95 for the bundle (or $299.95 with an SD card and case), I’d certainly recommend this camera/light combo to any safety conscious rider.
