UCI’s New Gravel World Series Heading To Western Australia + Victoria’s High Country

The UCI has announced the new Trek UCI Gravel World Series with 12 events planned across 4 continents including two races in Australia.

The plans for the series have been based on the existing UCI Gran Fondo World Series where riders can earn their spot in a yearly World Championship. In the new UCI Gravel World Series, the top 25% per age group and gender qualify for the UCI Gravel World Championships where the new world champions will be crowned with the coveted rainbow jersey in the different UCI age categories. The first UCI Gravel World Championships will take place in early October.

The major difference with the Gran Fondo World Series is that top-level pro riders will also take part and battle for the world titles. National federations – AusCycling in Australia’s case – also have the opportunity to send a national team to the Championship to represent the country.

The new Series will begin with its first race in the Philippines in early April. Races will be held in France, Poland, the United States, Sweden, Belgium, Italy, Australia, Holland and Spain, ultimately culminating in the World Championships in October.
Seven Race In Nannup, WA & GRAVELISTA In Beechworth, Victoria
To be held in May 2022, Western Australia’s SEVEN Gravel Race is one of the two Aussie events to be included in the UCI’s Gravel World Series. The SEVEN Gravel Race course starts and finishes in the picturesque township of Nannup, approximately 40 minutes drive from the major regional centres of Busselton, Bridgetown and Margaret River.

GRAVELISTA will host the second of the two Trek UCI Gravel World Series races in Australia. Set for 3 & 4 September 2022 in the historical town of Beechworth, in Victoria’s High Country, the event will be a celebration of some of the finest gravel riding in the country, located in an iconic destination.

In addition to superb riding options well-suited to a UCI-level event, the visitor experience and amenities around the riding will ensure a world-class experience for all involved. GRAVELISTA will encompass a weekend of activity and celebration around the racing, with an event village, expo, fine food and drink and activities for supporters as well as riders.

“Victoria’s High Country is well known as Australia’s premier cycling destination and we are thrilled to play host to the internationally recognised, GRAVELISTA,” said Bess Nolan-Cook, CEO of Tourism North East.
“We expect the event to attract significant participation and visitors will be immersed in an unforgettable weekend of epic cycling, world-class produce and live entertainment in the historic and picturesque town of Beechworth.”
The gravel roads of Beechworth will be home to Australia’s first event in the UCI Gravel World Series.
2022 Trek UCI Gravel World Series
Trek will be the title partner of the 2022 Trek UCI Gravel World Series. They’ve seen the popularity of gravel grow exponentially in recent years and believe that the gravel bike can and will offer new experiences and enjoyment for competitive and leisure riders alike – a bike for all purposes.

“We’re excited to support the UCI’s new Gravel World Series,” said Mark Eedle, Marketing Manager (Australia & New Zealand) of Trek Bicycle.

“Gravel riding is about awesome adventures and beyond, and Gravelista will be no exception.  We look forward to riders enjoying Beechworth and its surrounds as they take the opportunity to create their own new adventures and stories.  And as we always say, ride bikes, have fun and feel good.”
