13yo Cyclist ‘Left For Dead’ After Sickening Hit And Run

Police are appealing for public assistance following a sickening hit and run collision where a 13yo female cyclist was ‘left for dead’ after being knocked off her bike in Victoria.

Police report the driver of the car, a dark-coloured BMW, stopped briefly before leaving the scene. The incident occurred in Coburg on Sunday night with police saying the teenager had been riding when struck at the corner of Bell and Sussex streets, just after 8pm.

The young girl was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. As of noon Monday she remains in a critical condition and in an induced coma.

Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer told ABC News that investigators believe the driver or a passenger got out of the car at the scene prior to getting back in and driving off.

“We’ve got a 13-year-old who is absolutely fighting for life, she may not pull through, we want to speak to that driver, we need to understand what happened,” he told ABC News.

The Assistant Commissioner went on to say ‘there is absolutely no doubt the person was fully aware they had just hit a 13-year-old girl on a bike.’

Investigators have asked people to assist in locating the vehicle which has a broken windscreen and missing left side mirror along with damage to the left front guard and bumper.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
