Bikes Of The Giro: Vincenzo Nibali’s Stunning Merida Scultura

The first Grand Tour of the year is upon us and this one’s sure to be a cracker!

The 100th edition of the Giro d’Italia starts in Sardinia on Friday with highlights including a double ascent of the legendary Stelvio Pass!

Well before the racing has even started, fans have been treated by the release of images of some of the stunning bikes that will be ridden in the centenary event. High on the list is this – the Merida Scultura that two-time Giro winner and captain of the Bahrain Merida Pro Cycling Team Vincenzo Nibali will be entrusted with.

Influenced by the spiral shaped Giro trophy, the bike features a gold bandrole etched with the names of all previous winners of the Corsa Rosa. According to Merida, real gold leaf was added to the top layer of the carbon before a clear coating was applied. A one-off creation, Merida say the frame will not available to the public.

Our thoughts? Absolutely stunning … Perhaps a petition could sway them.
