UPDATED: Police have officially confirmed one of the cyclists involved in Sydney’s Belrose crash has died. The rider was 47yo Nick Sky, and Bicycling Australia extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Nick’s family and friends at this heartbreaking and gut wrenching time.
Late on Thursday NSW police announced the car driver, a 24-year-old male, has since been charged with the additional offence of negligent driving occasioning death.
About 6.10am on Tuesday (4 June 2024), emergency services were called to Forest Way, Belrose, after reports of a crash involving two cyclists and a car.
Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, who treated both cyclists.
One cyclist – a 47-year-old man – was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
Earlier today (Thursday 6 June 2024), police were informed the man had since died.
The other cyclist – a 56-year-old man – was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.
The driver – a 24-year-old man – was uninjured, and underwent mandatory testing at a hospital before he was taken to Manly Police Station. He was charged with negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm) and cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle and now negligent driving occasioning death.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before Manly Local Court on Wednesday 24 July 2024.

Earlier: A man will face court on separate serious charges after two cyclists were struck and seriously injured at Belrose on Sydney’s north on Wednesday morning.
The shocking crash occurred shortly after 6am on Forest Way, one of the popularly ridden routes to Terrey Hills, West Head and Akuna Bay.
The riders – 47yo Nick Sky and 56yo Michael Collings – remain in hospital with Nick Sky airlifted from the scene to the Royal North Shore in a critical condition.
Police have now charged the driver – a 24yo P-plater – with ‘negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and causing bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle’.
The driver has been granted conditional bail to appear in court on July 24.
Police say they are determining if excessive speed was a contributing factor. They have asked for any dashcam footage or assistance from witnesses who may have been in the area around the time. If you can assist, contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.

So very sad to hear this news. A terrible loss for the families involved. We should have the right to share our roads safely but this time it failed. Perhaps designated bike lanes on all major roads is a must especially to encourage cycling and reduce pollution from greenhouse gases.
