Aussie trooper Peta Mullens has taken gold at the Australian National Cyclocross Championships, bringing her National Title tally up to 10. Despite a short cyclocross training season following her successful season racing in the US, the Focus Attaquer rider managed a comfortable win after an early gap with eventual runner-up Natalie Redmond.
Mullens took to Instagram to celebrate her win, stating: “It was a good battle with @natredmond who stole a 10sec gap on me twice; once when I couldn’t clip my foot in (need some practice) and then when I crashed on lap four (again much practice lol). When I chased back on with two laps to go I decided to turn the screws, nailing the straights and nursing the corners to ride away with a National title.”
No stranger to the green and gold National titles, Mullens has won multiple MTB National Championships and also managed a win at the 2015 Road National Championships. This along with her CX victory means Mullens has now worn the elite Australian jersey across three disciplines.
Victorian local, Erin Mitchell took out the women’s Under 23 category with Emma Lendrum nabbing the Under 19’s. For the men, Chris Jongewaard (Flanders JBlood) took out a very decisive win for the Elite Men after dominating the National Series for the past two years. Adam Blazevic took gold in the men’s Under 23 race, while Queensland rider Zach Larsson took the Under 19 win.
