Robbie McEwen Joins GCN+ As WorldTour Commentator

A few short months after being unceremoniously axed from SBS, Robbie McEwen will now be commentating on GCN+

GCN+ Have added iconic sprinter and class commentator Robbie McEwen to its team.

A 12-time Giro d’Italia stage winner, 12-time Tour de France stage winner and three-time Tour de France sprinter’s classification winner, McEwen will bring 16-years of unrivalled road racing expertise to viewers across all GCN+ territories.

Since retiring as a professional racer in 2012, McEwen has cemented his place as a highly respected commentator and pundit, delivering insightful analysis of professional races for both ASO and Australia’s SBS for six years.

He will join Discovery’s international commentary team alongside some of the biggest names in cycling to offer the best insights and commentary for its live race coverage that is also shown across Europe on discovery+ (in selected markets) and Eurosport.

McEwen will join the GCN+ commentary team for Tirreno Adriatico (7 – 13 March), Milan Sanremo (19 March), and Ronde van Vlaanderen (3 April). He will also commentate alongside Sean Kelly, Rob Hatch, Carlton Kirby and Dan Lloyd from the GCN+ studios in Bath, UK, for the Giro d’Italia (6 – 29 May) and Tour de France (1 – 24 July), as well as making regular appearances on post-race analysis show, The Breakaway.

All racing coverage, content and exclusive documentaries are available on GCN+ via the GCN App, all web browsers, Amazon FireTV, Samsung Smart TV, AndroidTV, Chromecast and Apple AirPlay. Dan Lloyd, Director of Racing at GCN Said he was beyond delighted that Robbie will be joining the team as a commentator and pundit on GCN+ and Eurosport for most of the major races this season.

“His experience as a rider is second to none, but in more recent years he has become equally as respected for the quality of his commentary and punditry,” said Lloyd. ”His passion for cycling shines through at every race, and his analysis of sprint finishes is unrivalled.”

“I am sure that our audience will be as pleased as I am about the addition of Robbie to our cycling team. He’ll be with us throughout the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, but his first race with us begins on Monday; Tirreno Adriatico, which is available on GCN+ live, ad-free and on demand worldwide except New Zealand.”

Robbie McEwen said he is extremely excited to be joining the GCN commentary team this season.

“I’m really looking forward to calling some of the world’s biggest races for a global audience,” he said. ”With such broad, year round coverage GCN truly is the home of cycling and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
