Selle Royal Introduce New Saddles, Innovative and Comfortable

Selle Royal, the Italy-based saddle company has been designing saddles for over 50 years, striving to create some of the best saddles for many prestigious bicycle manufacturers and athletes alike.

Continuing on from their innovative past, the brand has redesigned a series of saddles in conjunction with one of the worlds leading sports universities, Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln (German Sports University Cologne).

Delving into the finer points of the human anatomy, experts from the German Sports University created a research group to measure Ischial Variation and used a sample size of 240 athletes to create their newest range of seats called Scientia.

The aim of the research was to create the perfect fitting saddle for all types of riders.

Research was done to decide on the different types of rider position and ‘sit bone’ widths.

The three widths that the experts at the German Sports University Cologne concluded with.

With three rider positions confirmed based on the angle the rider fits on the bike, and three saddle widths to service the three Ischial distance clusters defined in the outcome of the research, the brand could create a mulit-model range that caters for the whole cycling population.
