Willunga Hill is the one race fans have been waiting for – Stage 5 is an annual favourite for the tens of thousands of spectators who crowd the legendary hill and millions who watch the coverage around the world.
Saturday at the Tour Down Under means one thing … vast numbers of cycling fans, throbbing hospitality tents, sensational racing and one very iconic climb – Willunga Hill.
The Queen stage of the Tour Down Under, today’s racing begins in the main street of McLaren Vale. There will be 3-laps of the picturesque winery-strewn area followed by a coastal sortee to Aldinga Beach then on to Snapper Point and Port Willunga. From there riders will head toward the legendary Willunga Hill, a 3km climb at 7.6% gradient.
Richie Porte is in the Ochre Jersey – he has won here on the past three occasions – can he do it again today?
