Garmin has acquired TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic, two digital training platforms used by athletes and coaches across endurance and strength sports.
Garmin says the acquisition will add coaching and training tools to the company’s fitness ecosystem, with a focus on structured training, performance tracking and athlete support.
TrainingPeaks is a popular platform among cyclists, triathletes and endurance athletes, allowing coaches to create training plans, analyse performance data and track athlete progress. It’s used by both professional and amateur athletes preparing for events and managing long-term training.
TrainHeroic provides tools for strength and performance training, connecting athletes and coaches through customised programmes and workout tracking.
Garmin said the acquisition will help integrate coaching features with its existing range of fitness products and services.
“TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic share Garmin’s passion for empowering athletes and coaches around the world with world-class training tools, performance metrics and actionable insights,” said Garmin Co-Chief Operating Officer Brad Trenkle.
“The addition of these highly successful platforms to the Garmin ecosystem will expand access to more authentic coaching experiences, connecting athletes with professional coaches who guide, motivate and inspire them to reach their goals.”
TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic are based in Louisville, Colorado, and Garmin says around 120 employees from the two companies will join Garmin’s global workforce.
There’s no word yet on when the integration of TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic will happen, or what exactly it will look like for that matter, but it is expected that the acquisition will also include TrainingPeaks Virtual, formerly known as Indievelo, which TrainingPeaks acquired in 2024. It’s a Zwift-like competitor platform, and so is also something Garmin clearly sees value in acquiring.
There’s a good wrap-up of what the move may mean for Garmin and Training Peaks users on DC Rainmaker’s website.
