GPS wizards Garmin have launched two new products ready for the summer season, the Edge 200 and the Vector system. The Edge 200 is the latest in Garmin’s Edge family and has a range of features including a new high-sensitivity GPS receiver with HotFix® satellite prediction, meaning there’s less time spent waiting to receive a satellite signal. It also has a feature called ‘Courses’ which remembers up to 130 hours of ride data and then lets you measure yourself against it. You can also download other people’s rides from Garmin’s worldwide Connect community to compete against or simply to plan new rides. The Edge 200 will retail at approximately $149.
Vector is a Look Keo compatible pedal based power measurement system that is compatible with Garmin’s Edge 800 and Edge 500 computers. It uses a sensor which fits inside your pedal spindle, in this case an Exustar pedal which accepts Look Keo cleats. It measures the deflections through the pedal stroke and using ANT+ sends the data to your computer. You can then view as you’re riding or download the information to Garmin Connect. It even measures both legs separately helping you to iron out any discrepancies in power. Garmin claim the Vector is the lightest power meter on the market. Vector will be available in March 2012 and will have a Recommended Retail Price of $1,499.99
