Thompson’s carbon HBE 104 road bar has a slightly flattened profile on the tops, enough room for aero bar attachment, and features ‘mid-compact’ reach and drop measurements. They claim internal cable routing compromises bar longevity and so opt rather to position cables along the underside of the bar. Toray, the main supplier of carbon fibre for Boeing and Airbus, also supplies Thompson who uses a single piece construction method that is said to increase strength and minimise internal wrinkles in the layup. Reach specification of the bars is 78.5mm while the drop varies with width; 40cm/137mm, 42cm/140mm, 44cm/140mm, 46cm/143mm.
