In this Bicycling Australia video, recorded during the Tour Down Under in Adelaide, we speak with Guy Thompson from Groupe Sportif, the Australian MAVIC distributors – along with French professional cyclist Pierre Latour from AG2R La Mondiale.
First up Guy explains and demonstrates Mavic’s revolutionary Road UST (Universal System Tubeless) – the company’s tubeless offering that’s rapidly gaining a reputation for ease of installation and removal.
Mavic’s UST system was on display at the 2018 Santos Tour Down Under – watch our video below to see a demonstration of the tubeless technology.
The tyres, Mavic Yksion UST in 25mm and 28mm widths, can be easily fitted, and more importantly removed by hand, a new-design beading ensuring the perfect union between tyre and wheel. They can also be pumped, from flat, with a floor or hand pump. Mavic say the stringent manufacturing process of the patented new system ensures each wheel and tyre combination is within a 1mm tolerance.
Less Wasted Watts

We then take at look at the company’s innovative ‘Comete Ultimate’ road cycling shoe. Mavic say this fascinating new design offers 15% energy savings for calf muscles which translates to what we all want – more watts to the wheels.
“The combination of a reduced 4.5mm stack height and a lower contour at the ankle allows the highest level of freedom of movement,” said a Mavic representative.”As a result, you experience a 19% increase in range of motion and a more round and efficient pedal stroke that saves an average of 4.2 watts per revolution.”
