Zipp brings back a classic with the NSW 202 – its lightest ever wheelset

Zipp has released the 202 NSW, a new wheelset aimed at riders focused on climbing, with a claimed weight of just 1,090 grams.

In case you were wondering, the Zipp 202 NSW wheelset isn’t entirely new – the company launched it in its original form more than a decade ago, and the newest edition looks to update it for a more modern riding experience.

The company says the o.g built its reputation as a lightweight option for steep terrain back in the rim brake days, and while the new version is aimed at a similar segment of the market, this latest version reflects current road tech and design priorities, and is, of course, disc only.

As Zipp puts it, the new wheelset is not a comeback, but the ‘return of an icon.’

The standout feature of the new 2026 202 NSW is a 35mm rim depth, designed to balance low weight with aerodynamic performance on flatter sections and stability on descents.

It builds on construction techniques first seen in the Zipp 353 NSW wheelset, including the brand’s ‘Biomimetic Laminate’ carbon layup.

This design, according to the company, combines different carbon fibre types to increase stiffness at the spoke bed while improving impact resistance at the tyre bed.

Zipp says higher-strength fibres are used on the outer rim for durability, while higher-modulus fibres on the inner rim help maintain spoke tension under load.

The wheelset features a 23mm internal rim width, allowing for wider tyres and lower pressures, which can help reduce rolling resistance and vibration losses.

At the centre is the company’s ZR1 SL hub, laced with Alpina Hyperlite spokes in a 20-hole two-cross configuration. The hub uses ceramic bearings and offers 66 points of engagement.

Zipp says the 202 NSW is intended for climbing-focused road bikes but can also be used in lightweight builds where reduced weight is a priority. The wheelset is backed by a lifetime warranty.

The wheels have a maximum system weight of 115kg.

The Zipp 202 NSW wheelset is available now via SRAM, although no local pricing has been made official yet. The front wheel costs $1,900 USD ($3,000 AUD) and the rear $2,300 ($3750 AUD).

The wheelset is compatible with the three major drivetrain brands, and Zipp backs it with a lifetime warranty.
