New for 2013, Oval has released a new 46mm carbon clincher, the wheelset weighing in at just 1,465g. Incorporating the 7075 aluminium Oval 900 hubset, these wheels offer a six pawl double engagement freehub body. Oval have used cold drawn double butted Sandvik aero spokes and internal nipples made of 7075 alloy. The internal nipples allow a smaller hole in the rim, which increases wheel strength. Braking performance is a hot topic around carbon rims, with much research on part of manufacturers to improve stopping power and reduce heat, and much speculation on the part of buyers as to individual manufacturer’s success in these areas.
Oval claim their use of 3k carbon on the brake track improves performance, and they include carbon specific pads with wheels.
