Aussie success series: Annette Edmondson

Affectionately known as Nettie, Edmondson has achieved much in her career, firstly as a professional cyclist and now as an agent, mentor and race director.

Many of you will know Edmondson for her many years and achievements in the Australian women’s endurance track team. Track was her main focus, but she also spent several years on the road, juggling both disciplines.

Edmondson’s achievements on the track representing Australia include three world titles, an Olympic bronze medal, two Commonwealth Games gold medals, and 16 national titles representing her home state of South Australia.

In addition to many years of racing on the track, Edmondson also raced on the road for five years from 2013, firstly with the Australian team Orica-AIS and then Wiggle High5.

She was initially identified in a school talent ID quest. Early in her career, she thought of cycling as just a hobby and not something serious, but she was able to make it a viable career despite the past lack of opportunity for women.

It is that lack of opportunity for female cyclists that drives her now. When she retired in late 2021, Edmondson set up her own business called Paradigm Shift Sports to act as an agent for cyclists and mentor up-and-coming cyclists, focusing on women.

She is also the Assistant Race Director of the Tour Down Under, a role she shares with fellow former pro rider Carlee Taylor.
