Lachlan Morton completes 90%

Pro cyclist Lachlan Morton has completed an impressive 90% of his lap around Australia. He’s now more than 13,000 km into his epic journey with a little over 1,000 km until he reaches the finish in his home town of Port Macquarie on the NSW north coast.

Morton is on track to break the previous record and has raised $77,000 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

32-year-old Morton is on track to smash the previous Around Australian record with nine days to spare.

As he skirted Melbourne a few days ago he shared the ride with a few new friends, dot watchers who came out to join him. Morton says having then along made battling the cold headwind a whole lot more enjoyable.

As he nears Sydney, Morton hopes that more dot watchers will come out to ride a few kilometres with him and take part in his historic ride.

He began the ride in Port Macquarie on Thursday, 5 September to take on the 14,200 km anti-clockwise lap. Riding with a mobile support crew, his goal is to break the around Australia record, which currently stands at 37 days, 20 hours.

For his charity, the goal is to raise $100,000, so if you’re keen to donate you can visit the fundraising page https://fundraising.ilf.org.au/lachlanmortongreatsoutherncountry
